LACOSTE SS17: A BACKSTAGE STORY
Kicking of New York Fashion Week for us, Felipe Oliveira Baptista presented his Lacoste SS17 collection yesterday in the Big Apple’s Spring Studios. The designer transformed the venue into a tropical greenhouse, welcoming a collection with artistic influences. First in the patterns: while the emblematic crocodile is given a new life with graffiti-like features, stripes on sweaters and body-con dresses seem like they were painted by hand, the brush stroke leaving some color flow over the clothes. Evidently for Lacoste, the collection features a great deal of sportswear references, mixed with more tailored pieces, just like when hooded sweaters are worn under timeless coats cinched at the waist. The collection also held its share of surprises, one of them being a light blue gown falling to the floor, adding an unexpected glamour to the collection, while managing to remain highly functional (fabrics were not chosen by chance!). Still a hit for Felipe Oliveira Baptista, whose journey to redefining Lacoste’s elegance still amazes.
