BIANCA ARGIMON x CRASH x LEVI’S MADE & CRAFTED

Photographed in her studio, at home within her personal creative space, and dressed in Levi’s Made & Crafted, Bianca Argimon perfectly embodies the denim line’s focus on fine craftsmanship. For its Spring/Summer 2018 collection, Made & Crafted immersed itself in Japanese culture, notably the Shibori folding and indigo dying technique used to create wholly unique patterns. Other pieces feature graphic elements and textured fabrics that reveal an inspiration from Australian aboriginal culture.

After a stint at Central Saint Martins, Bianca Argimon earned diplomas from both the Arts Décoratifs and Beaux-Arts schools in Paris, notably under the mentorship of Jean-Michel Alberola. What drives the young artist is a fascination for the news, which she follows closely by devouring newspapers and dissecting articles to extract the stories they tell and transpose them onto a much larger scale. Exploring the profound changes that have rocked society, her art presents a naïve and childish aesthetic that sheds light on serious or unsettling topics. Her goal is always to draw in the viewer with a pleasant and alluring form, only to disrupt the experience by revealing the grave and often dark substance of the work. Known for brightly colorful crayon frescoes that recall the painting of Hieronymus Bosch, Bianca also pursues her aesthetic in other media like sculpture and video. As a politically engaged artist, she asserts that art is an outlet for all her fears and paranoia about the future of humanity, which she can then treat with lightness and humor. After earning a residency at the Hermès workshops in Lyon, she had an opportunity to work on silk printing techniques and discover the fashion house’s artisanal crafts. During the experience, she produced the drawing West of Eden, a unique take on the Garden of Eden which she seasoned with a hefty dose of 21^st century issues and challenges. Her piece was presented in January along with works by the residency’s other participating artists as part of the exhibition Les Mains Sans Sommeil [The Sleepless Hands] at the Palais de Tokyo. She is also preparing an exhibition at La Panacée in Montpellier.
