A MUSEUM GATHERING THE PINAULT COLLECTION WILL OPEN IN PARIS’ BOURSE DU COMMERCE AS FROM 2018

This is some exciting news for the art enthusiasts and the cultural landscape of Paris. The city announced today that the historical Bourse de Commerce building, which is located at the heart of Paris near the recently renovated Halles, will host a permanent museum entirely financed and put together by the Pinault Foundation. Set to open its door at the end of 2018, the museum (which name is yet to be revealed) is a joint idea from mayor Anne Hidalgo and François Pinault, a longtime champion of the arts who built an extensive collection over the years. The city of Paris granted the Bourse de Commerce to Mr. Pinault for a period of 50 years in order for him to restore it and create the museum he envisions. After that period of time, the city will retrieve the building and continue the work that has been done. The architectural project will be overseen by legendary architect Tadao Ando, a great collaborator of Pinault who worked with him on many occasions. We remember the inauguration of Palazzo Grassi ten years ago, as well as Punta della Dogana in Venice in 2009, a space dedicated to contemporary art where the artworks from the Pinault Collection are regularly shown. The collection is also exhibited around the world as part of various exhibitions. As Mr. Pinault explains in his official statement, his dream has always been to create an international network in which the arts (be it artworks, ideas, exchanges) can circulate. Now with the Paris opening, there will be a strong, constant relation within Europe in the field of art, under the direction of Martin Bethenod – current head of the Pinault Foundation. A permanent space of exhibition, the future museum will also host various artists interventions who will be given carte blanche (a formula that already works in the Venice spaces). More than just another museum, this Bourse du Commerce space will put the emphasis on education with a diverse offering and experiences linked to the many artistic disciplines.
