TURNER PRIZE 2016: FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

Tate Britain just announced the four finalists of the Turner Prize 2016. Founded in 1984, the Turner Prize has always aimed to promote public debate around the British contemporary art scene and its developments, and has grown to become one of the most respected prizes for visual arts in the world. Each year, four artists under fifty are selected for an outstanding exhibition presented the year before. They are then given the opportunity to present their works in an exhibition organized at the Tate Britain every other year, prior to the winner being announced. This year’s shortlisted artists are: Michael Dean (for his solo exhibitions Sic Gyphs at South London Gallery and Qualities of Violence at de Appel arts centre in Amsterdam), Anthea Hamilton (for her solo exhibition Anthea Hamilton: Lichen! Libido! Chastity! at Sculpture Center in New York), Helen Marten (for her project Lunar Nibs at the 56th Venice Biennal as well as her solo exhibition Eucalyptus Let Us In at Green Naftali in New York), and Josephine Pryde (for her solo exhibition Lapses in Thinking by the Person I Am at CCA Wattis in San Francisco). The exhibition will open on September 27th until January 8th at Tate Britain and the winner will be announced in December during a ceremony live on the BBC. Previous Turner Prize winners include Laure Prouvost (2013), Wolfang Tillmans (2000), Steve McQueen (1999), Damien Hirst (1995), and Anish Kapoor (1991).
