RACHEL WEISZ INTERVIEW ON ACTING

Mellow and mysterious. Star of lovely bones and agora, Rachel Weisz is motivated by cinematic stories that she carefully selects, playing a mother cruelly affected by the loss of her son in one, and a brilliant and passionate philosopher in the other. While the Peter Jackson film invited her to enter the earl 1970s, the second, directed b Alejandro Amenabar, spoke to her through its unusual character, contemporary despite its setting in a far-away past. Starting-off as a model, the actress began her stage and screen career while attending the university of Cambridge in England. « I don’t know what lead me to theater and film… I just wanted to pass through the screen ». From London to Hollywood, Rachel has enchanted directors, including Bernardo Bertolucci who brought her poolside in stealing beauty in 1996. She currently lives in New York, near the director Darren Aronofsky with whom she shot The fountain in 2006. Awarded that same year with an Oscar and a Golden Globe for best supporting actress in Gernando Meirelles’ The constant gardener, she’s currently working on several big projects, including a play in London. “I’d really like to act in a French film… It’s a great country in which to grow up and become a woman », she suggests wistfully. It’s also the perfect place to give voice to a few of the women who inhabit her body, just long enough for a few reels.
