TWILLAINE COMBINATION – HERMES

By Crash redaction

The twillaine is one of Hermès’ classics. It provides the unique opportunity to mix a scarf with an item of clothing using an extremely precise technique called « remaillage ».

The silk twill is assembled, stitch by stitch with knitting wool: a rare technique called « retricotage » and a gesture which requires both creativity and dexterity from the hands of the craftsman.
The idea popped up in the 60’s when the brand decided to combine the technique of knitting with their iconic scarf. Thereafter, artistic director Christophe Lemaire incorporated twillaine in his collections beginning in the Fall/Winter 2011 season.

Today Hermès proposes to their customers 80 possible variations to create their own personilized item combined with 5 models: a tank top, a low-cut top, a dress, a sweatshirt and a cardigan. These items can then be matched with 8 scarves that come in two different colour ranges: Ex-libris, Brides de gala, Couvertures et Tenues de Jour, Colliers de Chien, Astrologie Nouvelle, Quadrige II, Cavalcadour and Cheval Surprise.
Once the scarf and clothing item are chosen, the finished product only takes two months to be delivered directly to the customer.
Available on April 5th in Hermès shops: 24 Faubourg Saint Honoré, Georges V à Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon and Monte Carlo.
