REPORT ART / ELIZABETH PEYTON AT GAVIN’S BROWN ENTERPRISE

By Crash redaction

Elizabeth Peyton’s new show opened at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise.

This exhibition exploits the tension of artistic invention threatened with imminent cultural icons. Following  the artist’s tradition in pop portraiture, her work contents in a variety of known and unknown faces, ranging from Leonardo Dicaprio to the Obamas embracing in a sensual kiss.  Small oil and watercolor paintings are main characteristic of her work. Peyton’s exhibitions have a unique way of making you feel like you are  at a close friend’s apartment decorated with paintings of your own friends

Elizabeth Peyton, the artist known for tiny, dazzling portraits of radiant youth, is now painting tiny, dazzling portraits of radiant middle age. The change is so subtle you can miss it, and it’s not even in all her new pictures, some of which just seem pretty.
