On the occasion of the release of « Madame Claude » on Netflix, discover our interview with French actress Garance Marillier from our issue #88.

Nadia Tereszkiewicz, Garance Marillier, Kacey Mottet-Klein and Roman Kolinka form the vanguard of a portfolio dedicated to the new faces of French film, whose charismatic performances have electrified the big screen in recent years. Discover our second episode with Garance, whose performance in Julia Ducournau’s Raw, released in 2017, stunned audiences with its natural, stripped-down approach. Although she had already filmed shorts and TV films with the director (and others like William Laboury or Benjamin Parent), it was her ferocious role as veterinary student turned cannibal that introduced her to a wider audience. Recently, we can see her in the series Ad Vitam created by Thomas Cailley and available on Netflix.

Can you introduce yourself?

I’m Garance Marillier and I’m twenty-one years old. I’m an actor and I live in Paris.

What projects are you working on now?

I just wrapped an American film directed by Agatha Alexander, called Warning, and I’ll start working on the new film directed by Sylvie Verheyde, Madame Claude, in May.

What movie made you want to work in film?

Definitely Vertigo for the double role played by Kim Novak. I was fascinated.

What is your fondest memory on set?

The sheet scene in Raw. It was a moment of perfect osmosis with director Julia Ducournau. 

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?

I like to wander around my neighborhood with my friends, read, go to the movies then have dinner with my parents.

If you were an album, which one would you be?

Good Kid, M.A.A.D City by Kendrick Lamar.

Who is your favorite artist?

David Lynch, for all his cinematic works and also his paintings.

What is your dream destination for a holiday?

Bali.

If you could change something in the world, what would it be?

For climate and nature to be a priority for everyone.
