BACKSTAGE AT DIOR A/W 2019

Fashion has been making statements lately. Whether it be taking positions on politic matters, ecology or pushing the conversation forward on queer identity. Maria Grazia Chiuri has made it clear from the very beginning of her collaboration with Dior that feminism would be an important part of her collections. With clever messages placed on t-shirts, powerful looks or even just broader shoulders, Dior women have been the symbol of emancipation through clothes. This time, for the A/W 2019 collection, the designer invited Italian conceptual artist Tomaso Binga to read a feminist poem before the show started. While the « sisterhood global » t-shirt tucked into a full skirt kicked off the show, it wasn’t just about catchphrases. The collection was a bit of a hybrid between the classic Christian Dior silhouette and modern sportswear and street culture. Think floor-sweeping dresses paired with bucket hats. Notable pieces were the high-waisted check pants, tulle skirts and vinyl maxi coats.
