FAUX REAL BREAK A SECOND SWEAT IN THEIR FIRST MUSIC VIDEO

By Alice Butterlin

There’s a new band on the block and they might just be what you’ve been looking for if you’re in need of some avant-garde pop sprinkled with cosmic synths. They’re called Faux Real and are composed of the two franco-american brothers Virgile and Elliott Arndt whose names might sound familiar. Elliott has actually been directing and photographing for a while as well as being part of the London-based supergroup Vanishing Twin who have just issued a fantastic new album. Virgile has also been making music on his side with the band Natas Loves You which ended in 2015. Today the two siblings are uniting their forces to serve some quirky sounds with deep crooner vocals. While they hadn’t put out any music yet, the pair played some concerts and toured the US last March with a very modest set-up but a lot of raw energy. They got lucky when Jay Watson – from Tame Impala, Pond and GUM – offered them to co-produce and play drums on their first EP which we can expect for next Fall.

For now, you can discover their first ever (self-directed) music video for the track « Second Sweat », a pop song that’s rough around the edges with addictive motorik synth loops and a groovy bass line. The lyrics tackles social anxiety and panic attacks on an epileptic beat with the Arndt brothers’ bodies breaking into awkwardly seductive moves. They obviously already have a strong sense of their musical and aesthetic identity and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for this unsettling duo.
