FURLA ART AWARD MOVES TO MILAN FOR ITS TENTH EDITION

By Crash redaction

For fifteen years now, the Furla Art Award organized by Fondazione Furla and Furla S.p.A has been aiming at supporting young Italian talents in contemporary art. Today, the renowned award is experiencing one of its biggest and most exciting changes in its history: moving to Milan and collaborating with both the Municipal Office of Culture and Palazzo Reale in the conjoint goal of uniting the actual and future influencers of contemporary art in Italy. Its collaboration with the City of Milan, so well-known for its influence on art, will fully benefit the dialogue between the different figures of contemporary art in Italy; an objective that remains the main goal of the Furla Art Award.

For the tenth edition of the Furla Art Award in 2015, influential Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft was chosen to be the « guiding artist », enabling her to chair the international jury that will decide the winner in November. Nudity, a classic and timeless theme in art, inspired Beecroft for the title and theme of the 2015 award, « The Nude Prize ». This year’s Award gives the occasion to rediscover nudity in art through the vision of some of the most promising young Italian artists. This makes it the perfect opportunity to cement the Furla Art Award into global art history.

The five finalists for the 2015 Furla Art Award, each chosen by a pair of selecting curators, are:

– Luigi Coppola, selected by Viviana Checchia and Tara McDowell

– Maria Adele Del Vecchio, selected by Antonello Tolve and Branka Bencic

– Francesco Fonassi, selected by Chiara Vecchiarelli and Sofia Hernandez Chong Cuy

– Maria Iorio and Raphael Cuomo, selected by Simone Frangi and Virginie Bobin

– Gian Maria Tosatti, selected by Alessandro Facente and Chelsea Haines

The finalists must present a new project proposal to the jury, on which the members of the jury will then base their decision to name the winner of this edition. The winner of the 2015 Furla Art Award will be offered the opportunity to study and work abroad through an artist residency. He or she will also be supported by Fondazione Furla to create the proposed work, which will then be shown to the public as a loan to Museo Del Novecento in Milan, as well as during the International Art Fair of Modern and Contemporary Art 2015 (MIART) in April the same year and finally at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia during the 56th Venice Biennale in May 2015.
