GEORGE CONDO EXHIBITION AT NOUVEAU MUSÉE NATIONAL DE MONACO

By Crash redaction

The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco presents Humanoïdes, an exhibition dedicated to American painter George Condo that will be on view from March 31st to October 1st, 2023.

According to George Condo, « The Humanoid is not a science fiction monster, it is a form of representation that uses traditional means to bring deep emotions to the surface of a person. »
George Condo investigated this concept by pushing modern painting toward what can be called « almost human. » Starting from an undoubtedly cubist base, the artist humanized his concept, where the figures and faces in the paintings are undoubtedly broken down but have a clear recognizable key. Condo becomes the advocate of a « psychological cubism » where his intention is to explore the human psyche.
The exhibition traces the continuity of an abundant body of work ranging from « extra-terrestrials » to directories of the world. Punctuated by specially created paintings, the exhibition opens the doors of the factory, as crazy as it is erudite, to viewers.

American artist George Condo was born in Concord, New Hampshire, in 1957. He studied music theory and art history at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. George Condo’s work is a multidimensional experience that takes the viewer on a psychological exploration of human nature. Through a transformative process involving different artistic languages and an updating of their philosophical content, his paintings open a window into the world in which we live.
George Condo’s works are in the permanent collections of many major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Broad Foundation (Los Angeles), the Tate (London) and the Musée National d’Art Moderne – Centre Pompidou (Paris). The painter has been invited to lecture at several prestigious institutions and taught a six-month course entitled « Memory of Painting » at Harvard University.
In 2021, the Long Museum (Shanghai) presented « The Picture Gallery, » George Condo’s largest solo exhibition in Asia. In 2019, the artist participated in the exhibition « May You Live In Interesting Times » at the 58th Venice Biennale. The retrospective exhibition « Mental States, » first shown at the New Museum in New York in 2011, has since moved to Rotterdam, London and Frankfurt.

The artist is now represented by Hauser & Wirth Gallery.
