HOW JCDC BROUGHT BENETTON OVER THE RAINBOW

By Crash

When the fantastic trio met on an Iceberg commercial shoot in 1986 where Jean-Charles de Castelbajac was the creative director of the house, Oliviero Toscani was the photographer and Luciano Benetton was the model, they must have never imagined linking up again more than thirty years later. Yet, here they are, at the root of a new beginning. Everything started when Luciano decided to take control of his family business last year and called back his old collaborator Toscani who has worked for Benetton from 1982 to 2000, creating break-through imagery that would shape the brand’s aesthetic. Together they decided to welcome JCDC as the new creative director of the collections, hosting a fashion show last February in Milan!

Called « The Rainbow Machine », the collection’s joy and fantasy was contagious. Jean-Charles de Castelbajac seems like a perfect match for a brand that always – from the very beginning – advocated freedom, diversity and crazy colors. Bright hues were popping everywhere, from carrot-orange pants to multicolored puffer jackets and neon eyeshadow. You couldn’t help thinking about 90s catwalks which exuded sass and fun. The energy was quite child-like and irresistibly naive with absolutely no vulgarity and models stomped around to a Michel Gaubert soundtrack. Discover a couple photos of the show below.
