KARL LAGERFELD DIRECTS THE NEW CHANEL MOVIE « PARIS-SALZBURG »

By Crash redaction

The new short film for the Chanel Métiers d’Art « Paris-Salzburg » collection called « Reincarnation » is directed by Karl Lagerfeld himself, and starring none other than Pharrell Williams, Cara Delevingne and Geraldine Chaplin. Pharrell composed the music and wrote the lyrics of the original soundtrack, besides his leading role on the film.

Karl Lagerfeld imagines an other piece of Gabrielle Chanel’s life. Played by Geraldine Chaplin, Gabrielle spends her holidays in the suburbs of Salzburg in the mid-Fifties. She meets a young lift-boy at her hotel, played by Pharell, who wears a jacket that will come as the inspiration for the iconic Chanel jacket. About this particular fact, Karl declares: “It was time to show the origins of the Chanel jacket, inspired by the one worn by the lift attendant in a hotel near Salzburg in the 1950s (…) Reincarnation is the story of a lift attendant’s jacket being reincarnated as a timeless piece of womenswear. » In the film, top model Cara Delevingne embodies a look-a-like of the Empress Sissi, who comes back as a ghost for a one-night dance with her Prince Pharrell. As Lagerfeld says so well: “None of this would have been possible without Pharrell Williams, Cara Delevingne and Geraldine Chaplin. It’s the perfect cast. Pharrell is a genius and Geraldine is at her best in the role of Gabrielle Chanel in the year of her comeback.”
