LANVIN MEN’S A/W 2020

By Crash

For Fall/Winter 2020, Bruno Sialelli decided to anchor the Lanvin men’s collection on the character of Corto Maltese, the adventurous sailor from the 60s Italian comic book by Hugo Pratt. Called “Beach Birds”, the collections also melds in another reference – a more contemporary one: the photographs of Hugh Holland documenting young skaters in California served as another strong inspiration. Sharp tailoring is mixed with sailor-wear like the officer’s coat or a blue-striped flowy shirt under a crisp white blazer. As always with Bruno, the materials are rich and pieces are cut alternately in alpaca, cashmere, wool or exceptional leather. The Mackintosh raincoat – which Corto Maltese is famous for wearing – was given a makeover with a painted scene from the comic book. Women in the show were wearing big cape coats in different shades with oversized knit collars and leather boots. Accessories were fun and playful with a child’s briefcase in brown leather with pops of green details, or clutches that looked like pine cones.
