A TRAVELLING SELLING EXHIBITION OF MEISEL’S BEST WORKS

By Crash redaction

Phillips, one of the most innovative auction house that sales photographs, contemporary art and more, just launched a new travelling selling exhibition. Called « Role-play », the exhibition will be dedicated to the talented, acclaimed photographer Steven Meisel. It includes twenty-five of Meisel’s most impressive fashion photographs. Meisel’s work has always been narrative, visionary, and he remains a leader in the aesthetic of fashion photography, making him one of the biggest influences of his time. Only he can transform a moment of one’s daily life into a magistral photography, create real characters, always with this extremely glamorous, charming and stylish take. This is what great fashion photographers are made of.

One of the most significant picture in the exhibition is surely the one from the early 1990s, with supermodel Kirsten McMenamy for Vogue US, which marks a turning point in fashion by introducing the grunge aesthetic in a « mainstream » revue. This particular photograph will be in an almost full size format at the Phillip’s exhibition. Describing it as one of his favorite pictures, Meisel says: « This image captured a real cultural moment of a music scene and fashion scene fusing together to create a look. Alexander Lieberman, however, said it was one of the most important fashion stories ever and it ran its entirety ».

The exhibition will travel to three of the world’s best known fashion centers. It will starts with Paris, London and end in New York. Vanessa Hallet, Senior Director and Worldwide Head of Photographs, explains: “Steven Meisel is one of the most important fashion photographers working today and Phillips is honored to be collaborating with him on this very exciting selling exhibition. For the past few decades his visual language has been shaping both the fashion and photographs industries and will no doubt continue to do so. This is a terrific opportunity for collectors to enrich their collections with Meisel’s compelling images.”

The exhibition will start on November 20th in Paris, on 46 Rue du Bac until December 9. It will take off to London from December 16 to January 11, at 30 Berkeley Square, and to New York from 23 January to February 14, at 450 Park Avenue.
