MGMT REVEALS A NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR « WHEN YOU DIE »

By Crash redaction

After a four year hiatus, the American psych pop duo MGMT is back with an unexpected new album Little Dark Age which will be out in February 2018. Following the first eponymous new-wave-inspired single, the band has revealed a second music video for « When you die », a soft pop ballad.

The music video, directed by Mike Burakoff and Hallie Cooper-Novack, follows Alex Karpovski, who you may have recognized from the HBO show Girls, as he goes on with his routine filmed in technicolor. Embodying a clumsy magician failing to impress anyone, not even his girlfriend, Karpovski sees himself transported into space, floating in the air, sparkling from head-to-toe. The video takes on a morbid turn when the protagonist appears to be dying, his body dissected by surgeons in an embroidered-like image. Death is treated with humour and psychedelic imagery, from murals of flowers to bodies made of googling eyes.

MGMT will be on tour in Europe in 2018, starting in Berlin on January 30th and finishing in London on February 6th, with a sold-out show in Paris at La Cigale on February 5th. Find out more about MGMT here.
