MIU MIU WOMEN’S TALES: EYE TWO TIMES MOUTH BY LILA AVILÉS

By Crash redaction

On February 15th, Miu hosted the premiere of the short film Eyes Two Times Mouth written and directed by Lila Avilés commemorating the 25th edition of the Miu Miu Women’s Tales.
The goal of these series of short films is to invite the most profound and original female directors of our time, to investigate and narrate themes related to femininity and vanity.

The Curzon Mayfair Cinema was entirely customized for the screening, hosting not only the first viewing of the film, but also an intimate discussion between the audience and the new director. Luz, protagonist of the film, works at a gallery but her real passion and dedication in life is to become an opera singer. She’s told, “Your mouth is twice the size of your eye,” and this is where the title of the film comes from, defining the story of a woman who decides to bravely reinvent herself by pursuing her biggest dreams. Within the film we observe Luz’s journey which results in a metamorphosis of the character’s personal life, able to blossom into everything she has always wanted to be.

Lila Avilés, born in 1982,  is a Mexican independent film director, screenwriter, and producer. Her most famous film, The Chambermaid, was chosen to represent Mexico at the 92nd Academy Awards. Her latest film, Tótem, out in 2023 is about a young girl navigating a world of adults.
