PARIS’ GALERIE DOWNTOWN PRESENTS LE CORBUSIER

By Crash redaction

A LE CORBUSIER FURNITURE INSTALLATION AT GALERIE DOWNTOWN

From October 23rd to December 19th, Paris’ Galerie Downton is presenting a unique display of Le Corbusier furnitures. One of the most emblematic architects of the 20th century, Le Corbusier has also left an incredible body of work in as an interior designer. « There is nothing shameful about having a house which is as practical as a typewriter », he once declared. Le Corbusier was at the origin of the « Unité d’habitation » (Housing unit), known as Marseille’s Cité Radieuse, a building that is the representation of his genius mind and his brutalist vision. At Galerie Downtown, owner François Laffanour presents furnitures that highlight Le Corbusier’s ability to create pure designs with the simplest of materials, like oakwood in most of his creations, or tin for a kitchen set designed for Marseille. Above all, Le Corbusier’s work is about functionality and a pure aesthetic, which is why his furniture still find their place in today’s society. Le Corbusier was a true theorist and created a standard for furnishing, working particularly with Charlotte Perriand in his agency. Paris’ Galerie Downtown offers its public to rediscover this layer of the incredible designer’s work.
