PAUL SMITH COLLABORATES WITH ANGLEPOISE AND ATELIER LLADRO

By Crash redaction

British contemporary fashion designer Paul Smith debuts the mega brand’s two latest collaborations with both Lladro Atelier and Anglepoise furnishings. Through the reinterpretation of Anglepoise’s classic Type 75 table lamp, to the fun-loving porcelain cat and dog characters brought to life by Lladro Atelier, Paul Smith demonstrates that there does not need to be a sacrifice between functionality art creativity.

The sleek, mechanical no-frills design of the Anglepoise Type 75, created by British industrial product designer, Sir Kenneth Grange was the perfect palet for combining striking colour treatments. Paul Smith‘s vision for the streamlined lamp was a surprise of complimentary colours like deep grey-olive tones set against sharp accents of fuchsia and lime, lilac and clay.

Recognizing the unique aesthetic of Paul Smith, and Lladro’s use of thousand-year-old materials and unique artisan processes  Lladro made the collaborating process natural and exciting for both parties. Lladro Atelier encouraged Paul Smith’s to express his personal and creative world through the creation of two characters as their sixth designer for their ‘The Guest’ series. Paul Smith’s two characters for Lladro, a cat and dog, are the newest additions to the playfully mischievous collection with the intention of creating an object that could make « any home happy ».   The porcelain figurines entitled ‘Like Cat and Dog’ express the irresistible draw between fashion, innovation and tradition, and holding it all together with creativity and a sense of humour.

The Guest by Paul Smith figurines are avalable in two sizes, large (52cm) and small (30cm) and will be on sale in Lladro and Paul Smith shops, online at Paul Smith Online  and Atelier Lladro Online, as well as a select network of galleries and concept stores.

Anglepoise + Paul Smith will be available for pre-orders on both the Anglepoise Website and Paul Smith Website in mid August, as well as Paul Smith shops and selected retailers from the 13th of September 2014.
