PRADA UNVEILS THE CRAFTSMANSHIP BEHIND ITS FRINGE SKIRT AND EMBROIDERED DRESS

By Aicha NDIAYE

Creating garments as intricate as those seen in Prada’s Collection demands a fusion of skill, patience, and innovation. Among the standout pieces are the fringe skirt and embroidered dress, each a testament to the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and creativity.

Adorned with 75 eyelets in three different sizes, the Eyelet skirt epitomizes complexity in craftsmanship. The process begins with meticulous attention to detail, as the embroiderer spreads and combs threads to achieve a uniform appearance. Thick, precise stitches are then embroidered onto the fringe, marking the points where the eyelets will be incorporated.

In the final stages, each eyelet is meticulously affixed to the fringe using a small machine, with the stud securely pressed and fixed manually. The result is a hypnotizing skirt with intricate detailing, a labor of love that takes three to five days to complete.

The Fringe dress, featuring an elaborate floral motif, stands as a masterpiece of technical skill. Each dress features 16 embroidered flowers, with each flower taking nine to ten hours to complete. The preparation phase alone demands five to six hours.

The process begins with the careful placement of fringe strips onto a frame, meticulously combed and fixed onto cotton gauze. With painstaking precision, crystal rhinestone chains, metal chains, bezel rhinestones, and micro-cups are meticulously attached. Each flower comes to life under the embroiderer’s hand, with soft, sinuous curves and carefully applied stitches ensuring the natural movement of the fringes.

Prada’s fringe skirt and embroidered dress exemplify the fusion of tradition and innovation, where time-honored craftsmanship meets avant-garde design. These garments stand as testaments to the Know how and dedication of those who bring them to life.
