PROFIL / PEET DULLAERT

By Crash redaction

The sculptural dresses of Peet Dullaert address the viewer like elegant seashells one might stumble across on a seaside stroll. Their wavy forms undulate along the body, resting on its curves in perfect asymmetry, like the petals of wilted flowers. Carefully torn, open-worked, patched, or even crumpled, the fabrics used by the Dutch designer are always worked by hand to give each piece the same unique character as the organic elements transformed by the motion of the sea. « Ocean, mist, sand, lava »: each dress bears a name evoking nature, which Dullaert is sure to emphasize in every collection. His versatile pieces seem to transform infinitely to adapt to new lifestyles, as evidenced by the « Techno-Smock dress » with its detachable accordion sleeve. Created in 2012 when the designer was only twenty-three years old, PEET DULLAERT aims to shake up the world of luxury by rethinking its production cycles and encouraging a shift towards more responsible practices. The ready-to-wear lines are designed on a « see now buy now » basis: in place of collections designed six months in advance, the brand offers capsules available for immediate sale. Designed in Paris, the pieces reflect an eminently poetic universe marked by freedom of movement and timeless sensuality. Cut to perfection, they sculpt the body and adorn it with subtle details, such as the small baroque pearls bordering straps and delicate clasps. Though he is committed to the dreamy side of luxury, the designer has not forgotten his down-to-earth values. This is notably on display in the recently launched « Care for Earth – Plant for the Future » initiative, which helps to plant trees in the Amazon rainforest and donates part of its profits to the organization Trees for the Future. With this project, Dullaert affirms a contemporary vision that combines prestigious fashion houses with robust social commitments.
