REJINA PYO SS23

By Roisin Breen

Entitled Love and work, Rejina Pyo’s Spring Summer 2023 collection, was a celebration of women, and what it means to love and work.

“One can live magnificently in this world if one knows how to work and how to love” – Tolstoy

“When Tolstoy wrote these words over 100 years ago little thought was given to how women did or could experience love and work – what Freud described as the two cornerstones of our humanness.Today, on the 28th floor of a new addition to the London skyline, against the backdrop of sweeping views across the city we celebrate women and what it means to love and work,” said Pyo.

The collection reimagined workwear for the modern woman, with the pandemic, globalization and the internet constantly changing our working habits, Pyo imagined a workplace where women can be free to express themselves through clothing and break out of the box of traditional “work attire.”

This notion embodied itself in feminine tailoring featuring short skirts, slits and draped trousers. There were delicately crocheted bras, dresses, accessories and hand-craft embellishments as well as sheer button up tops, skirts and dresses in lemon and sage that can be worn with or without linings.

She showed off her signature sculptural shapes keeping her silhouettes soft and relaxed with falling shoulders and revealing straps. Silk halterneck dresses and tops were finished with statement, custom gold plated hardware while white and patchworked two-tone organic denim styles are relaxed and finished with hand-frayed detailing. Swimwear was made with recycled nylon in double halter straps and one-shouldered styles are finished with a signature resin donut ring.

Shoes came in the form of flat and low wooden heeled strappy sandals and in neutral colors, and as for accessories SS23 introduces the knot bag family in both object box and cross body bucket sizes, and a new hand held chain bag and an updated Banana bag with new strap detailing. Statement jewelry pieces featured organically shaped glass pearls made in Italy.
