RIMOWA PRESENTS « HAMMERSCHLAG » COLLECTION

By Aicha NDIAYE

Since its creation in 1898, Rimowa has established itself as a pioneer, seamlessly blending form and function to create visionary mobility tools. Today, in homage to this legacy, the Luxury luggage house is delighted to introduce “Hammerschlag”, a new collection inspired by an iconic archival model from the brand’s rich history.

Built with its artisanal heritage in mind, the new collection draws inspiration from the past, featuring a distinctive new aluminum dubbed « Hammerschlag, » a German term meaning « hammer blow. »

Beyond its ability to capture and reflect light, the textured aluminum was prized for its shiny, polished surface, a striking contrast to the matte finishes that prevailed in the industry’s early years. Now, this archival piece makes a grand return with the Rimowa Hand-Carry Case Hammerschlag and the Rimowa Cabin Hammerschlag.

To celebrate this launch, Rimowa turns to the world of music, drawing parallels between the unique motif of the cases and the rhythmic movements of piano keys that produce sound. At the heart of the campaign, the German musician and composer Nils Frahm delivers a captivating rendition of his piece « Hammers » in Berlin, with each note resonating with the repetitive yet nuanced movements that breathe life into both music and design. By spotlighting the piano hammers in the film, the campaign masterfully contrasts Rimowa’s renowned craftsmanship with the world of music, revealing a harmony in the often intricate maneuvers required to achieve subtlety.

The limited-edition collection will be released in numbered pieces, inscribed on a leather patch inside. The collection consists of 1898 Rimowa Cabin Hammerschlag suitcases and 966 Rimowa Hand-Carry Cases Hammerschlag.

Starting from March 28th 2024, the “Hammerschlag” collection will be available in Rimowa’s stores worldwide and online at www.rimowa.com
