The Children of Lir, an Irish fairytale of children who are turned into swans for hundreds of years by their jealous stepmother is the central theme of Simone Rocha’s Autumn/Winter 2022 collection. The collection was presented at London Fashion Week on a spherical runway, meant to mimic the shape of a lake, in the medieval hall of London’s Lincoln Inn.  Under the influence of the sinister beauty of this fairytale Rocha explores the transformation from human to bird.  Wing shapes emerge from nylon and taffeta looks.  Eiderdown quilting, sequined balaclavas, long stockings and gloves and a new « Bloodline » embroidery on tulles and organzas define the ethereal fairytale aesthetic.  Patent leather and deep blue velvets evoke the wetness of the lake , and crystals adorning the models eyes like water droplets complete the transformation from human to swan.
