‘THE ARTIST IS PRESENT’: GUCCI ANNOUNCES A COLLABORATIVE EXHIBITION WITH MAURIZIO CATTELAN

By Crash redaction

Exclusively for Crash, Gucci has just announced an exhibition called « The Artist Is Present » curated by the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan which will take place on October 10th in Shanghai. The project stems from Alessandro Michele’s dream to gather artworks from the past and the present, making antique Roman sculptures clash with prosthetic baby dragons as seen on the latest Gucci runway. To make that dream reality, he decided to collaborate with Cattelan. Together they will focus on the relation between image and reality, between real and fake. At a time when old ideas are being reinterpreted and made new again, the copy becomes the actual artwork. How does originality remain when imitation prevails?

Discover a video made by Yuri Ancarani which follows Maurizio Cattelan while he roams around Shanghai searching for inspiration. Small moments of life, celebrating textures, colors and forms.
