MARIA GRAZIA CHIURI’S FIRST COLLECTION FOR DIOR

« I strive to be attentive and open to the world and to create fashion that resembles the women of today. » Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first collection for the House of Dior was certainly the most awaited event of this Paris Fashion Week. And the former Valentino Creative Director made a powerful statement for her debut, showing a collection that is fully in the spirit of Dior. One inspiration shines through the clothes: fencing. For Chiuri, this discipline is so interesting and inspiring for its costumes are the same for both men and women. Finding inspiration in the way the female body adapts itself into the clothes, Maria Grazia Chiuri presented a strong series of white silhouettes with quilted jackets and corsets referencing this most elegant sport. On the first look’s jacket, a red heart is embroidered and set the tone for a masterful collection. Sportswear is also a concept that the designer explores with ease, showing slippers embossed with Dior’s emblematic bee. Still the collection is utterly feminine, and seems the find an equilibrium in the balance of evanescent, sheer tulle skirts and dresses mixed with more contemporary pieces like these white T-Shirts reading « We should all be feminists. » Final sheer dresses are embroidered with beautiful Zodiac signs and Surrealist-inspired patterns and worn with thigh-high boots. With a woman as creative director – the first time in the history of the House – Dior is now paving the way for a renouveau that we’re sure is going to shine brighter than ever. www.dior.com
