UPCYCLED BY MIU MIU X LEVI’S®

By Maxime Der Nahabédian

At the end of last year, Miuccia Prada reinforced her commitment to sustainability with the launch of Upcycled by Miu Miu, a special collection of repurposed vintage dresses from the 1930s to the 1980s.

The collection was composed of 80 unique pre-loved pieces all sourced in different places in the world. The dresses were all taken back to the Miu Miu ateliers to be restored and reworked by hand using signature Miu Miu embroideries and ornaments, and then sold in select Miu Miu stores worldwide. Today, Upcycled by Miu Miu is teaming up with Levi’s® on a collection of pre-loved denim.

The collab revolves around Levi’s® iconic designs, including the MADE IN USA men’s 501® jeans and Trucker Jackets. Each piece was given the signature feminine Miu Miu twist using various hand-embellishments: floral patterns, crystals, pearls as well as leather patches featuring Art Deco-inspired intarsia motifs.

The 501® jeans were popularized on screen in the 1950s by none other than Marilyn Monroe. Decades after, Miu Miu chose contemporary muses and friends of the House, the actor Emma Corrin (who recently won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role as Diana, Princess of Wales, in Netflix’s The Crown) and models Lila Moss and Georgia Palmer to embody the free-spirited Miu Miu woman.

Photographed by Johnny Dufort, Corrin is seen sporting a Trucker Jacket with puffed sleeves and embroideries, while Lila Moss wears an ensemble of stoned jacket and jeans. All pairs of jeans feature the iconic Levi’s® backpatch with a Miu Miu twist in baby pink and the House’s logo.

Available in limited-edition, the Upcycled by Miu Miu collection in collaboration with Levi’s® will be unveiled mid-May in London Selfridges and Shanghai IAPM. It will later be available in select stores worldwide, as well as at miumiu.com.
