A CLOSER LOOK AT THE AVANT-GARDE COLLABORATION BETWEEN VETEMENTS AND REEBOK
For its spring-summer 2017 collection, Vetements has teamed up with legendary athletic retailer Reebok. Known for its avant-garde pieces that blend luxury and underground culture, the Vetements collective has made a name for itself and revolutionized the fashion industry in the space of a few years. Moreover, Demna Gvasalia, the collective’s lead designer, was named artistic director of the famous brand Balenciaga in October 2015. With a reputation for remaining independent from current trends, the collective’s goal is to expand and embellish wardrobes by mixing totally different brands and pieces. Continuing its philosophy, the brand has presented a collection formed entirely from collaborations with 18 brands, each one a leader in their industry: Levi’s, Dr. Martens, Eastpak, Brioni, and even Reebok, among others. In fact, the collective has decided to collaborate with the sportswear pioneer with more than 120 years of history by revisiting its classics, always with the Vetements DNA. With its reputation for hoodies, jackets, and sportswear, Vetements and Reebok make perfect bedfellows for the new collaboration. In addition, both brands already reissued a limited-edition pair of sneakers for the “Official Fake” capsule collection released at an event organized with MATCHESFASHION in Korea last October. The new chapter in the collaboration features jogging suits (an emblematic piece of sportswear and the Reebok wardrobe) embellished with colors and asymmetrical design, as often showcased in the brand’s identity. Furthermore, the silhouette is complemented with leather thigh boots in shiny satin or the brand’s iconic color gradation. This excellent collaboration between two renowned houses finds the perfect way to mix avant-garde fashion and sportswear.
