‘’Rencontre dans le ciel’’

Born in Kyoto, the former capital of Japan and frequently heralded as the modern day culture capital, Japanese designer AiKOMOTO became familiar with crochet and hand knitting techniques from an early age.

Beginning her fashion career working as a pattern maker and 3D model maker after moving to Paris, her love for knitting was reignited and she changed her career path, learning to machine knit and produce much vaster and higher quality products.

Graduating as a knitwear designer and pattern maker in the École de la Maille de Paris, she won the grand « Prix du Jury » in 2020 and her interest in biodegradable materials such as Tapioca plastic was sparked.

In this collection, around 70% of materials are recycled, and 30% of materials are innovative. Keen to preserve and protect the planet we inhabit, she is consistent in using leftover yarns and old knits to transform them or to collect the thread.

Inspired by the strong festival culture in Japan, AiKOMOTO created this collection as a dialogue and synthesis between the pain of losing a loved one, and wishing them well in the after life. A celebration of Japanese culture and heritage and a nod to traditional Buddhist festivals, it is an Avant-garde and progressive collection.
