CHANEL BECOMES A PARTNER OF THE DEAUVILLE AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL

By Alice Butterlin

The Deauville American Film Festival is going strong since last Friday, with Catherine Deneuve as the President of the jury which comprises of personalities from different fields of the industry like the French rapper Orelsan or the actor Gaspard Ulliel. An eclectic bunch who will be giving their say on what’s happening on the big screen on the other side of the Atlantic. This year, Chanel has announced it is a partner of the festival for the first time, a not so unexpected move for a fashion house that has been close to the world of cinema since the very beginning.

In fact, Coco Chanel’s first store actually opened in Deauville in 1912, in the Gontaut-Biron street, marking the beginning of her reign as the creator of completely innovative women’s fashion. She then created numerous costumes for Hollywood movies and films by her French friends Robert Bresson, Jean Cocteau or Alain Resnais. Her delicate and timeless outfits will forever make a mark on a certain period of cinema. Today, Chanel continues to occupy a big space in the industry, dressing the biggest actors and actresses at events and prestigious festivals. Sofia Coppola, Kristen Stewart, Anna Mouglalis (Chanel ambassador and president of the Revelations jury this year) and many more have all been faithful to the house for the incomparable glamour and irreverence it brings to the red carpet.
