CHANEL ISSUES A STATEMENT REGARDING COVID-19

By Crash

Discover the Chanel statement on its way of functioning during the COVID-19 crisis:

« As we face the current unprecedented and global health and economic crisis, Chanel, as a responsible corporate citizen, has decided – in agreement with the social partners – not to avail itself of the partial unemployment system put in place in France.

Chanel therefore undertakes, for a period of eight weeks from 16 March of last week to 8 May to fully maintain the salaries of CHANEL’s 8,500 employees in France (including the Métiers d’Arts and the manufacturing/production sites*, as well as Eres) for 40 business days. As part of a joint effort pending the end of the crisis and in light of salaries being maintained for this period of eight weeks, fully financed by Chanel, employees are asked to participate in this act of solidarity.
The goal is to avoid placing a burden on public finances so that the French government can help the most vulnerable businesses as a priority and, of course, channel its financing into the healthcare system, healthcare workers and emergency services.

Additionally, to play its part in national solidarity efforts, Chanel has decided to show its support for hospitals and healthcare structures by making a financial contribution of 1,2 million euros to the emergency fund created by Fondation de l’AP-HP (the public hospital system for the city of Paris), the Fondation Claude Pompidou and the SAMU (French emergency services). These sums will be used to support hospital workers who have been on the front line since the start of the epidemic.

As part of their contribution to national solidarity efforts, Chanel and its partners have mobilized to produce protective face masks and gowns.

Over an initial three-week period, 230 volunteer sewing specialists from the Haute Couture, Ready-to-Wear and Maisons d’Art workshops will manufacture at home 60,000 face masks.

Additionally, one of our garment makers has launched the production of 150,000 face masks and 150,000 protective gowns over the same period, and one of our weavers will deliver 500,000 face masks within five weeks.

This personal protective equipment is intended for frontline workers in France and cannot be delivered outside of the country, notably due to export restrictions. »
