DOMINIQUE GONZALEZ-FOERSTER AT THE LOUVRE

By Roisin Breen

A rendez-vous with multi-disciplinary artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster from January 20 to 22, 2023 at the Auditorium of the Louvre. Since 1990, the French artist and director has been exploring  through multiple exhibitions, films, stagings and concerts, the modalities of sensory and cognitive relations between bodies and places, real or fictional.

Her works are exhibited worldwide as Dominique returns to the Louvre, where she filmed in 2012, to share her sensitive interrogations about the place of images and the distance between organic life and the work.

She has conceived her program as a set of spaces and apparitions through her cinematographic work, elaborating, with her accomplices Emma Lavigne, Ange Leccia and Luc Lagier, fertile dialogues on the metabolization and subjectivation of recorded and moving images.

Among the special moments and highlights of this meeting will be the preview screening of Christophe… définitivement, produced with Ange Leccia; a lighting show that will transform the Louvre auditorium, turning it into a place of art; a concert of Exotourisme, a musical project she is conducting with musician and performer Perez; and a guided tour by the artist through the Louvre collections discovering works that she considers to be « apparitions » and looking for particular motifs and mysterious repetitions. The tour will be captured by Jean-Louis Vialard, director of photography who had notably worked with the artist at the Louvre in 2012.

As a visual artist, filmmaker and video artist, she borrows from collective memory as well as from the literary and cinematographic heritage that she updates, thus creating multi-temporal environments, halfway between reality and fiction.

This event proposes, during a weekend in the company of the artist and her guests, Emma Lavigne, Ange Leccia and Luc Lagier, a return to her cinematographic work and her singular relationship to other arts.
