EXPLOSION OF JOY AT MOLLY GODDARD S/S 2021

By Crash

Creating their S/S 2021 collections was a struggle for designers facing a global pandemic and the dynamics of fashion drastically changing. They had the choice to either expose the bleakness of the situation, making it visible through the garments or take the opposite route and put a bit of joy and optimism in an otherwise daunting period. That’s exactly what British designer Molly Godard chose to do, first toying with the idea of a very neutral, pared back collection, then deciding to put color, crazy volumes and fun at the forefront. « I realized how dark and depressing the last few months had been and more and more color crept into the collection: neon pink tulle, green and black checkerboard, orange floral with black and yellow polka dots, bright blue vinyl bags. » declares Molly Goddard.

The collection draws inspiration from all over the place and the designer cites artists like Claes Oldenberg, Robert Morris, as well as Japanese streetstyle from the iconic Fruits Magazine and people watching in Camden. Neon green checkered jackets are paired with signature Molly Goddard puffy tulle skirts, while acid print organza dresses flow with bright green high socks and suede retro platform shoes. Long ruffled dresses are worn over graphic striped shirts and scrunched cross-body vinyl bags add a pop of fun to the kawaii looks.
