MAX MARA PRESENTS THE RESORT 2020 COLLECTION IN BERLIN

By Crash

Yesterday Max Mara intrigued by presenting its resort 2020 collection in the bustling and creative city of Berlin, bringing together international editors, buyers and influencers. The venue wasn’t chosen by chance since this year marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Wall, an occasion to celebrate the cultural and social rebirth of the city. The collection was shown in the Neues Museum which houses the most precious collection of pre-historic pieces. The unexpected modernity of these incredibly primitive artefacts have inspired the resort accessories: Sculptural bracelets, necklaces and earrings have been designed in collaboration with jewelry extraordinaire Reema Pachachi. Ancient metal has also infiltrated the looks with handwoven-looking fabrics that give some of the pieces a foil aspect.

Icons of Berlin’s history have of course been another inspiration with the likes of Marlene Dietrich and David Bowie – who lived in the German capital for a period of his life – lending their timeless charisma to the collection. As an homage to their signature looks, models stomped down in in very bold sharp-shouldered suits, large oversized pants and belted trench coats. A new coat made its debut on the runway, fittingly baptized « Berlin coat », cut in immaculate white wool with embroidered flowers on the shoulders – a wink to the porcelain of Meissen. Colors alternated between beige and camels, touches of bright red and flashes of metallics. Discover some of the looks below.
