A year ago, Ruohan made its debut in the City of Lights, Paris, introducing us to the concept of tranquility meticulously crafted over time. This philosophy likened the creation of their pieces to the patient artistry of refining a piece of fabric across three seasons. One aspect remained resolute while the other exuded warmth. Embracing the passage of time has consistently been the brand’s theme, as only the boundless extension of time can expand the confines of their enclosed dimension. In the blink of an eye, a year has passed, and SS24 marks Ruohan’s third collection at Paris Fashion Week, and everything seems to have unfolded just as planned.

Amidst the retrospective disorder, Ruohan’s inner logic and structure are gradually coming to light. Similar to how our perception of the world’s composition evolves from point-form lines, which then form shapes, and ultimately transform into three-dimensional entities, the brand aims to fold these elements into three collections. They employ a reverse logic to weave an extensive narrative that seamlessly melds ideals with reality.

« The landscape before seeing a landscape painting and the landscape after seeing one are two different worlds. » These words resonate deeply with Ruohan’s approach to clothing. They envision a future where viewers can approach their garments much like they would explore a Chinese landscape painting—where the clothing naturally possesses a sense of duration, unfolding sequentially across different times and spaces. It’s a perspective where the proportional aspect takes a back seat, and the focus is on the continuity of imagery.

In March, the Autumn/Winter series embarked on an exploration of the fundamental forms of clothing. It delved into the intangible origins and discovered a subjective square-shaped form, setting the stage for their artistic journey. In September, Ruohan simplified surfaces into lines, a quest to uncover connections within the framework, system, and hidden structures. This chapter represents the brand’s progression towards rationality—a meticulous exploration of Ruohan Nie’s linear perception of the vast world within her cultural context, aptly referred to as a perspective of connectivity. Within surfaces, lines, and points, lines stand as the most liberated element, devoid of a clear beginning or end yet capable of connecting points and surfaces in various dimensions. Like a writer leaving marks on paper or a traveler leaving footprints on the ground, truly witnessing the existence of these living lines demands a blend of sensibility and reason, continuous movement, and constant observation.

Ruohan’s SS24 collection is not just a showcase of exquisite fashion but an artistic journey that transcends the boundaries of time and space. It unfolds a narrative that defies traditional perceptions, inviting us to explore the continuity of imagery and the inherent logic that weaves through the fabric of our reality. Ruohan continues to be a brand that challenges the norm, leaving a mark on the fashion world that is as enigmatic as it is thought-provoking.
