SAINT LAURENT LAUNCHES ITS FIRST FINE JEWELRY COLLECTION

By Léo Mazzella

The forever young and beautiful house of Saint Laurent announced the launch of its first fine jewelry collection, an extension of the brand that feels effortless and almost inevitable, as Yves Saint Laurent himself had a great passion for jewelry.

One of Saint Laurent’s most significant and enduring jewelry collaborations was with the Parisian jewelry house, Gripoix. Together, they created a series of extravagant pieces for Saint Laurent’s couture collections throughout the 1980s, featuring colorful, oversized, and highly ornate designs.
Saint Laurent was also inspired by the art and jewelry of different cultures, particularly those of Africa and Asia. His 1967 collection showcased chunky, tribal-inspired jewelry made from wood, shells, and amber, while his « Opium » collection in 1977 featured lavish pieces inspired by traditional Chinese art and design.

In addition to designing jewelry for his collections, Saint Laurent also created signature pieces of his own, including the iconic « Love » brooch, which he designed in 1970 as a tribute to his longtime partner, Pierre Bergé. Therefore, Haute Joaillerie seems like a playground field to explore for the trendsetting artistic director Anthony Vaccarello, to carry on the legacy of Yves and to continue to diversify the wardrobe of the  Saint Laurent it-girl.

From gold to diamonds and other girl’s best friends, the collection focuses on functional, everyday statement pieces such as cuffs, necklaces, bracelets and earrings.  The timeless line captures the essence the brand by incorporating iconic motifs like the Cassandre and Maillon, now showcased in new, hard materials.

Anthony Vaccarello keeps on surprising loyal costumers and every Parisian girl looking to elevate her panoply.

Saint Laurent Fine Jewelry will be available at select flagship stores worldwide ysl.com
