SAINT LAURENT RIVE DROITE EXHIBITION – JAMES BARNOR

By Crash redaction

For the new exhibition of Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles Anthony Vaccarello invites photographer James Barnor, courtesy of Galerie Clémentine de La Féronnière.

Born in Ghana in 1929, James Barnor is one of the first photographers to have captured the nation at the time of its independence and also one of the first photojournalist of Ghana during the 50’s.
At the modest age of 93, Barnor opens his magnificent archive of black-and-white photos that includes photos of both famous and anonymous people.

To further emphasize the importance of photography and the use of the camera, James Barnor was joined by fellow photographer Campbell Addy to discuss Barnor’s beginnings, his views on fashion photography, his approach to black and white versus color film, but above all the extreme relevance of getting the real story across to the next generations. Like Barnor, Campbell Addy is a British photographer of Ghanaian origin born in 1999; their relationship is a mutual and continuous enrichment, creating a perfect generational exchange of information and artistic stimuli.

The resulting conversation between Barnor and Campbell can be watched on Saint Laurent’s YouTube channel and on YSL.COM.
