BACKSTAGE AT SONGZIO SS 23

By Crash redaction

Songzio’s 23 spring summer collection was inspired by the orderly chaos portrayed in Dante’s divine comedy. Asymmetry, draping and layering are the primary design features of this enigmatic and technical collection. Asymmetrical blazers worn with a layered sports vest piece. Two- piece crop cut sweatshirts worn with an embroidered sleeveless jersey inside. A double layered zip up shirt is also layered with a collarless organza shirt vest. The collection also features various types of blazers and jackets with attention to couture sensibilities. Accentuating these layers are the sharply cut slits that subtly reveal the inner layer piece or skin. These sharp blazers are worn with boldly and asymmetrically draped skirt pants, dual cocoon trousers and Songzio’s signature “ghost” wide pants with elongated back. Infusing these pieces with a touch of the east are Songzio’s unique “square cut patterns” originating from the brand’s attention to oriental methods of pattern making, creating unique curves and silhouette with straight sharp angles. Cocoon parachute jackets and bombers that fuses eastern garment’s pattern making methods and silhouette with western technical detailing and fabrics. Shirts with voluminous folds and drapes are prevalent through the collection giving a couture touch to the collection. Technical fabrics and sporty details are fused with oriental classical methods to create a new sense of sports couture. Furthermore, sweatshirts and t shirts are highlighted by striking visuals of Songzio’s original artworks. Colors of aqua blue, parakeet green, and lime yellow are present and for interesting effects of layering and draping, the fabrics used for outerwear have a somewhat futuristic shine and crisp touch coming from the technical fiber. For inner-wear, various types of light and transparent Habotai, cottons, jerseys and linens create sharp drapes and voluminous silhouette. Shoes inspired by “gomusin”, a traditional Korean shoe mostly worn in the 20th century, are reinterpreted on top of this espadrille-like base into bold boots and canvas sneakers. This collection’s shoulder and mini bags are the latest pieces from Songzio’s “haywire” series, multiple leather wires entangle the bags to create an orderly grunge feel. Technical double layered hats, asymmetrically crushed crowns and delicately bent brims accentuate this collection’s aesthetics and amplify the dramatic ambiance of the collection.
