FENDI PEEKABOO BAG CAMPAIGN FEATURING KATE AND LILA GRACE MOSS

By Aicha NDIAYE

Since its debut in 2008, the Peekaboo bag has epitomized the fusion of Roman craftsmanship and the essence of Fendi womanhood. Created by Silvia Venturini Fendi and introduced at the Women’s Spring/Summer 2009 show, the Peekaboo bag emerged as a response and a design born out of the desire to redefine modern accessories amidst the fading era of ‘it-bag’.

« I really wanted to create a bag that only a real leather goods maker like Fendi could possibly make. I wanted to evoke the beauty of a vintage bag with a lock, but for the first time make it about the movement of the bag. » – explains Silvia Venturini Fendi

Inspired by the children’s game « peek-a-boo, I see you, » the iconic Fendi bag embodies a study of contrasts, where sleek minimalism meets precious textures and colors, challenging the intimacy of a woman’s bag in a constant interplay of inside and out.

Marrying supple and rigid forms, the Peekaboo bag is centered around a double turnlock upper frame, gusseted pocket construction, and weighted keyhole hardware, creating a suspended drape when open.

The Peekaboo’s versatility and innovation have propelled it to become a runway staple for Fendi’s Ready-To-Wear collections, continuously evolving in design and functionality. From adaptations with shoulder straps to variations in materials and craftsmanship, the Peekaboo remains an icon of style and sophistication.

The 2024 Peekaboo Campaign, featuring Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Grace, epitomizes the emotional connection and familial bond embodied by the bag. Photographed by Craig McDean, this campaign celebrates the mother-daughter relationship, reflecting the matriarchal strength synonymous with the Fendi name.
