KAIBUTSU (MONSTER) BY KORE-EDA HIROKAZU AT CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

By Martina Conte

Japanese director KORE-EDA Hirokazu Kore-eda’s new film is a deep and meaningful thriller.  Winner of the Palme d’Or in 2018 for A Family Affair and the Jury Prize in 2013 for Like Father, Like Son, Hirokazu Kore-eda returns to Competition for the seventh time with Kaibutsu (Monster).

When young Minato begins to behave strangely, his mother senses something is wrong. It will be the teacher who will be responsible for this bizarre change; this is how a tricky and difficult situation develops, from which the truth will gradually emerge.

A story of love, duty, social conflict and secrets.
