THE STUDENTS OF THE ECOLE DE LA CHAMBRE SYNDICALE DE LA COUTURE PARISIENNE PRESENT THEIR COLLECTIONS

By Crash redaction

June 19th was a great day at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. It was the day first year Master students could present their work to the various fashion professionals and step a foot into their bright future.

Last Thursday, 31 young talents were presenting their final work in the form of a collection that was represented by a selection of three looks. Each student was given a small space which they decorated in accordance to their collection’s theme and inspirations. The installations were located on two different floors of the school, rue Réaumur in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, and an exceptional line-up of all the 31 silhouettes welcomed the visitors at the entrance of the building, under a roof entirely decorated by color pencils facing the floor like beautiful stalactites.

Walking around the two floors, it was the occasion to chat with the students, discussing their work, their process in designing, working with different fabrics and their inspirational background. Watching their collections come alive as they were explaining the hows and whys of their designs was a real glimpse into their personal universes and probably the most interesting way to enjoy the presentation. The students showed what they had learned all year long, which is to challenge themselves, to explore and master construction techniques and to show a modern vision.

So many great great designers and couturiers have once been students at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne: Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Issey Miyake, Véronique Nichanian… to name but a few. What was incredible was to realize that the future of fashion was there, right in front of our eyes. Indeed, the school that was created in 1927 now homes a world-renowned teaching program and provides its student with the best training there is with teachers that are all professionals, not only focusing on the technical know-how – sketching, designing, cutting patterns, sewing – but also giving them the keys to a full understanding of the economic and cultural environment of contemporary fashion.

Martine Sitbon, founder of Rue du Mail, was the mentor of this year’s class and attended the presentation to support the students. A great way to encourage them into pursuing their ambitions to represent tomorrow’s fashion.
