MIU MIU LITERARY CLUB: CELEBRATING WOMEN’S VOICES THROUGH WRITING

By Crash redaction

Miu Miu is set to unveil its inaugural Literary Club, « Writing Life, » a two-day event designed to reignite appreciation for the literary works of Sibilla Aleramo and Alba De Céspedes. Slated for April 17th and 18th 2024, this unique literary Club promises a captivating fusion of conversations, live performances, and entertainment, underscoring Miu Miu’s unwavering dedication to contemporary thought.

Drawing inspiration from the storied tradition of Europe’s literary salons and artistic circles, Miu Miu Literary Club finds its home at Milan’s prestigious Circolo Filologico. Attendees will delve into the profound impact of women in literature, both past and present, through a curated exploration of Aleramo’s « A Woman » (1906) and De Céspedes’s « Forbidden Notebook » (1952).

These seminal works exemplify the transformative power of writing as a medium of expression, enabling women across generations to articulate their aspirations, desires, and ideologies. Through their narratives, Aleramo and De Céspedes assert independence, inspiring subsequent generations to assert their voices in society.

Central to Miu Miu’s ethos, the Literary Club seeks to foster dialogue on women’s roles in society, encompassing themes of family, motherhood, and work. Guided by Olga Campofreda, panel discussions and performances will offer a dynamic platform for contemporary authors and commentators to share and open up for conversation on these different topics.

Panelists, including Pulitzer Prize winner Jhumpa Lahiri, Strega prize finalist Claudia Durastanti, and Booker prize long-listed author Selby Wynn Schwartz, will highlight the enduring relevance of Aleramo and De Céspedes’s works. Moderated by writer Lou Stoppard and journalist Zing Tsjeng, these discussions promise to bridge the past with the present, enriching future discourse on women’s empowerment. Complementing these intellectual exchanges, the Literary Club will feature evocative poetry readings and live music performances.

In celebrating the written word, « Writing Life » pays homage to literary pioneers and the enduring legacy of women’s voices, transcending time and inspiring generations to come. This event underscores Miu Miu’s commitment to promoting the arts, following in the footsteps of its renowned Women’s Tales film series and collaborations with multidisciplinary artists.
